The zeitgeist of reboots and sequels does not seem to be ending its haunt this year.

Showtime has just sent out a trailer for a new series, “American Gigolo.” It’s a sequel to the 1980 hit film starring Richard Gere.
Prolific actor Jon Bernthal ("The Walking Dead", "King Richard") will fill Gere’s very sexy shoes and designer suits as the main character, Julian Kaye, who, while working as a male prostitute, got involved in a murder. As Entertainment Tonight reported, this new series starts 15 years after Kaye was framed for murder and sent to jail.

As seen in the dark and sultry trailer, Kaye is let out of prison – by a cop portrayed by Rosie O'Donnell -- and is determined to figure out who framed him. He then must readjust to life back in L.A., pulled back into sex work while trying to reconnect with his old flame, played by Gretchen Mol.
It quickly looks like similar trouble followed Kaye right out of prison.
“American Gigolo” also stars Wayne Brady, Lizzie Brocheré, Leland Orser and Laura Liguori.
“Call Me" - which was the theme of the original "American Gigolo" movie - became a huge hit single for legendary new wave band, Blondie. This new trailer features a new, haunting remix of the song.
In a bit of synergy, Blondie is on tour this summer with legendary British punk band, The Damned.
"American Gigolo" premieres September 9 on Showtime.
