The highly-anticipated debut from Bella Kay, My Reckless Abandon, is now available everywhere, but first, the rising singer linked up with Bru to talk about the making of the project, and her beginnings in music that started at age 13.

“I've been writing music since I was like 13, not necessarily good music, but it's kind of like, just been me really practicing and harnessing my writing skills, and learning how to sing better,” Kay shares about her earliest memories of making music. “I think in 2025, I was like, ‘OK, I need to lock in,’ cause I was in college and I was like, ‘I don't like college at all,’ and I really wanted to pursue music. It has always been my dream, and I really wanted to give it a fair shot cause I hadn't, and so I was like, ‘OK, I'm gonna really try.’”
More than try, Bella Kay is already earmarked as one of 2026’s breakout artists, generating millions of streams and billions of TikTok views thanks to tracks like “The Sick,” and “iloveitiloveitiloveit.” Now, it’s time to see the full picture, as My Reckless Abandon debuts around the world.
“It's crazy because I've been working on it for so long, so I'm just really excited,” Kay shares. “I just can't wait for them to hear everything, but I really love ‘Blur,’ that one is my fave.”
Bella also notes “i deserve better,’ which serves as the album closer, and came in right under the wire. “I wrote ‘i deserve better’ like two weeks ago, so we're fresh off that one,” she reveals. “Everyone was mad at me. Everyone was like, ‘Bella, we need the song like today.’ And I was like, ‘give me 3.’”
“I just had to do it my way. I was like, ‘this is the song. It has to be the last one. I'm sorry, let me finish it.’”
