Thanks to Ancestry, the pair was traced down to being seventh cousins, once removed and connected via Parton's sixth great-grandfather and Cyrus' seventh great-grandfather, John Brickey of Virginia. The discovery was presented to Parton during a recent segment on Access Hollywood.

“Is that true? That’s amazing!" Parton exclaimed. "I’m sure she'll get a kick out of that, but it doesn’t surprise me because she does feel like family.”

Parton revealed to the public in 2009 that she is Cyrus’ Godmother and came to be via her friendship with Cyrus’ father and fellow Country artist, Billy Ray Cyrus.

"I've known her since she was a baby," Parton told ABC at the time. "When she was born, [her father] said, ‘You just have to be her godmother,’ and I said, ‘I accept.’ We never did do a big ceremony, but I’m so proud of her, love her. And she’s just like one of my own.”
