Sam Waterston is leaving his most iconic role.

Waterston will be exiting “Law & Order” and his role as District Attorney Jack McCoy after the episode airing Feb. 22, according to Vanity Fair.

The actor debuted on “Law & Order” in 1994 until the show ended in 2010. It was brought back in 2022 and Waterston also returned to the role of McCoy.

“An actor doesn’t want to let himself get too comfortable. I’m more grateful to you than I can say. 'L&O’'s continuing and amazing long run, along with its astounding come-back, is all thanks to you and to Dick Wolf, but for whose vision, patience, perseverance, and unique combination of creative and business talents, none of this would have happened. I feel very blessed. I hope to see you all on the flip side,” Waterston said in a statement regarding the exit.

For his portrayal of Jack McCoy, Waterston was nominated for three Emmys and 11 SAG awards, winning in 1998.

“Law & Order” airs at 8/7c on NBC.
