After being found guilty of assault with a semiautomatic firearm, discharging a firearm with gross negligence and carrying a loaded, unregistered firearm in a vehicle back in December, Daystar Peterson, famously known as Tory Lanez was sentenced to 10 years in prison on Tuesday for the 2020 shooting of Megan Thee Stallion, according to Rolling Stone.

Prosecutors requested that 31-year-old artists serve 13 years in prison and be deported back to Canada. In a sentencing memorandum, prosecutors detailed that along with the three felonies he was convicted of, he has re-traumatized Megan via social media posts opening her up to millions of slanderous attacks.

Back in April, Megan penned a personal essay Elle Magazine where she opened up about the incident and how she overcame not only being shot but the public humiliation that came along with her speaking up.

“As I reflect on the past three years, I view myself as a survivor, because I have truly survived the unimaginable. Not only did I survive being shot by someone I trusted and considered a close friend, but I overcame the public humiliation of having my name and reputation dragged through the mud by that individual for the entire world to see," she wrote.

Lanez's lawyers argued in their own sentencing memo that he should receive probation and be released to a residential substance abuse program, citing that the evidence against him was "questionable at best" and that his alcohol abuse problem played a role in his actions the night of the shooting.

Los Angeles Superior Court Judge David Herriford sentenced the Canada native to 10 years in prison, 8 months after he was found guilty.

After being sentenced, Tory spoke fondly of Megan saying that she is "someone I still care for dearly to this day," revealing that he "said some very immature things," after the shooting.

The sentencing finally brings an end to the three-year battle between the two that has plagued social media and been in and out of court rooms.
