Seeing Xander Bogaerts put on another uniform is enough of a knife right to the heart of Red Sox fans. Seeing him reunite with Don Orsillo -- another Boston fan favorite now in San Diego -- is just a little extra twist of that knife.
Orsillo hosted Bogaerts' Padres introduction on Friday, and both Orsillo's Twitter feed and the Padres' were filled with photos and videos of their reunion, including Bogaerts name-checking Orsillo during his introductory press conference.
"I saw Don as soon as I came in," Bogaerts said. "Haven't seen him in a while, so I was definitely happy to see him. Been a while. I was always a fan of him just doing games on TV and stuff like that."
Orsillo called the first three years of Bogaerts' big-league career in Boston before NESN and the Red Sox let him go after the 2015 season. Orsillo, who seems to already be trademarking "Xan Diego, is now going into his eighth year calling Padres games. If all goes well, he could be calling Bogaerts' games for the next 11 years.
While the situations aren't exactly the same, Red Sox fans now see another fan favorite leave for San Diego after not being valued in Boston the way they would have hoped, with the Red Sox reportedly never coming within $100 million of the 11-year, $280 million deal Bogaerts signed with the Padres.
