The Boston Bruins added to their blow-it-up trade deadline Friday afternoon by trading defenseman Brandon Carlo to the Toronto Maple Leafs, their second trade of the day within the division.
In return, the Bruins are getting forward Fraser Minten (one of Toronto's top prospects), a 2026 first-round pick (that's top-five protected), and 2025 fourth-round pick (originally Philadelphia's). The Bruins are retaining 15% of Carlo's salary.
Minten, 20, was a second-round pick in 2022 (38th overall). A physical player with a good shot, Minten has appeared in 19 NHL games, with two goals and two assists. The Bruins could play him in Boston immediately or have him report to AHL Providence.
The move caps off a day in which the Bruins also traded captain Brad Marchand to the Florida Panthers and veteran center Charlie Coyle to the Colorado Avalanche, with general manager Don Sweeney selling to an extent few anticipated. Boston also moved Trent Frederic and Justin Brazeau earlier in the week.
Carlo, 28, has two years left on his contract with an annual cap hit of $4.1 million. He had spent all nine of his NHL seasons in Boston. Carlo has one goal and eight assists in 63 games this season.
