Though he's long been rumored to be of interest to other organizations, it appears that New England Patriots director of player personnel Nick Caserio will move on from the organization this offseason.
RADIO.COM NFL Insider Jason La Canfora tweeted Tuesday that "the odds of Caserio being back in New England are slim to none from everything I hear."
The Panthers confirmed that Caserio is among the six candidates they've interviewed for their vacancy this week. ESPN's Adam Schefter and Chris Mortensen reported today that Caserio is also interviewing for the general manager's job in Houston, noting that "it has real promise."
The interesting part about Caserio being a candidate for the job in Houston is that the Patriots filed tampering charges against the Texans in June of 2019 for attempting to lure him away without receiving the permission of New England to interview him. At that time, Bill O'Brien, the former offensive coordinator in New England, was the head coach in Houston. He eventually took over as the leading front office executive as well, but was especially unsuccessful and fired as both the team's head coach and general manager in October of 2020.
That the Texans are still interested in Caserio in a post-O'Brien world gives you an idea of how highly he's though of around the league. He's been in the Patriots organization since 2001, and his current role since 2008. Ultimately, though, Bill Belichick still maintains final say for personnel decisions in New England.
