In more years, undertaking the exercise of touching base with every single one of the Red Sox' draft picks from the previous year would be an exhausting exercise.
This time around? No sweat. There are just four to catch up with.
With the minor-league season just more than three weeks old, it seems like a worthwhile exercise to catch up with the Red Sox' 2020 draft class.
NICK YORKE, INF, 1ST-ROUND
Almost exactly one year out from his high school graduation, Yorke is predictably hitting some early-season bumps in the road while playing second base for Single-A Salem.
Yorke, who impressed the organization with his ability to compete at both last year's alternate site and this season's major league spring training, is hitting .197 in 15 games, striking out in 18 of his first 61 at-bats. He has, however, managed hits in each of his last five games.
Defensively, Yorke has struggled somewhat with seven errors in 13 games at second base.
BLAZE JORDAN, 3B, 3RD-ROUND
Another high school product, Jordan is being eased into professional baseball a bit slower than his first-round counterpart. Jordan is playing exclusively at third base in extended spring training, having just started playing games against the Twins' minor-leaguers last week.
JEREMY WU-YELLAND, P, 4TH-ROUND
The University of Hawaii product has been very impressive in his first four pro starts, all coming with Salem. The lefty has allowed just two earned runs on seven hits over 11 1/3 innings, striking out 14 and walking six.
SHANE DROHAN, P, 5TH-ROUND
As good as Wu-Yelland's introduction has been, Drohan has been even more impressive. The former Florida State pitcher has allowed just one run over 12 innings in three starts, striking out 15 and walking six. He hasn't giving up more than two hits in any of his outings.
