Living legend Tom Brady will return to Foxboro next month, in the broadcast booth, to call the Patriots’ Week 9 game against the Green Bay Packers. With that visit on the horizon, current quarterback Drake Maye was asked about what it was like to meet Brady. The two spent time together at an event held by Fanatics back in 2024.

Maye told WEEI’s ‘Rich, Ken, and Ted,’ that initially, he was focused on, “Trying really not to embarrass myself around Tom.” After a chuckle, Maye got into the perspective the 7-time Super Bowl champion shared about his path to football greatness.

“He was just talking about his work ethic,” Maye said. “We talked about how great his story is, getting the job in Michigan and being a sixth-round pick, and really, there’s no shortcuts to it. No shortcuts to it. At the end of the day that you can appreciate your teammates, but at the same time, there’s not really a shortcut to winning. And knowing that’s the biggest thing, winning. You can be friends after.”

Maye also shared that to his knowledge, Brady remains “close” with offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels, Brady’s own past coordinator as a player in New England, and head coach Mike Vrabel, his teammate for three Super Bowl wins.

Brady joined Fox Sports in 2022, and began working as a color commentator in 2024. The Packers game will be his first time back at Gillette Stadium in the booth.

Meanwhile, Maye has found his footing after a bumpy start to the season. He threw for 321 yards, had 3 touchdowns, and charted a 77.4% completion rate in the Patriots’ 30-24 loss to the Chicago Bears Thursday night. An underthrown toss to tight end Eli Raridon in the endzone resulted in his only pick since October 4th.

He’s on pace for another season in which he throws for over 4,300 yards and 31 touchdowns – numbers very close to his MVP runner-up campaign from last season. The biggest difference is the 8 interceptions he’s already tallied, tying his total in 2025.

The Patriots see a divisional opponent in the Miami Dolphins Sunday at 1 p.m. The Dolphins are coming off their first win of the season, a 28-25 victory over the New York Jets.
