Is the Mac Jones era over?

Following his release on Monday, it didn’t take long for former New England Patriots cornerback Jack Jones to find a new home. And it’s a predictable one, just not for the reasons you would have immediately thought.

According to NFL Media’s Mike Garafolo, the Las Vegas Raiders have claimed the talented but troubled corner on waivers. There may have been another team with a better record interested, but the Raiders, now sitting at 5-5, were the team with highest waiver priority to claim him.

Jones is now reunited with Raiders head coach Antonio Pierce, who had a hand in coaching Jones at three stops, from high school through the college ranks. The most recent stop was Arizona State, where Pierce served as co-defensive coordinator in 2020 with former Cincinnati Bengals coach Marvin Lewis before taking over the job in 2021. He resigned in 2022, then joined the Raiders coaching staff shortly thereafter.

If Jones is going to rehab his image off-field and restart his once promising career on-field, then this might be the best destination…though the distractions in Vegas can be a bit overwhelming at times, too.
