gresh and fauria: TE Hunter Henry joins the show on patriots monday
The Patriots have a problem along the offensive line, there’s no denying that. In fact, even Bill Belichick, at least throughout his actions over the last two days, knows it. The team struggled to protect their quarterbacks throughout the preseason and as a result, traded for two offensive tackles on Sunday.
Patriots tight end Hunter Henry, however, doesn’t sound worried about where the team is at up front. Here’s what he told WEEI’s Gresh and Fauria on Monday:
“I’ve worked with a lot of those guys for the last two years," he said of the offensive line. "We’ve worked together, a lot of us. We’ve got tons of reps under our belt, including practices that even the media doesn’t see. There’s lots of reps that we’ve built up. We’ll be ready to go man.”
New England’s offensive line, much like last season, has been a patchwork operation since the start of OTAs in April. Mike Onwenu started the offseason program on PUP, Calvin Anderson has been on the non-football injury list throughout training camp, and Riley Reiff got hurt during their final preseason game in Tennessee. Henry, however, sees the good in working with everybody:
“It’s always good to mix and match too,” the tight end told Gresh and Fauria. “We’ve got to work with different tackles, we’ve got to work with different tight ends, work with different receivers. It’s always good to do that throughout camp too, especially because you just never know who you’re going to be working with maybe, on a week to week sometimes with injuries and how this game can be played.”
New England added tackle Tyrone Wheatley Jr. from the Browns and tackle Vederian Lowe from the Vikings on Sunday. The roster currently sits at 79 players, but has to be trimmed to 53 by Tuesday at 4 p.m.
Henry also discussed cuts, who should make the Patriots final roster, and Arkansas football on today’s edition of Gresh and Fauria. Listen to the full interview here.
