Red Sox ownership appears all-in on the 2021 team.
According to Jim Bowden of The Athletic, Red Sox ownership is encouraging Chaim Bloom to make a push for Nationals right-hander Max Scherzer. They are "dreaming" of a rotation down the stretch with him and Chris Sale.
The report notes the Dodgers and Giants are the favorites right now to land him, but the Padres, Rays and Red Sox are still in the mix.
In 18 games this year, the righty is 7-4 with a 2.83 ERA, but doesn't have a win since June 27. Scherzer is a free agent after this season.
The trade deadline is Friday at 4 p.m.
