The New England Patriots and tight end Hunter Henry have agreed to a two-year extension, as first reported by Ian Rapoport. Adam Schefter adds that it is a $16 million deal that could be worth up to $20 million with bonuses. There is a $4.2 million signing bonus, and $14.5 million in guaranteed money.
Henry, 31, was entering the final season of his current contract. He had a career-high 768 receiving yards last season on 60 catches to go along with seven touchdowns. He started all 17 games.
Henry is entering his sixth season in New England after signing as a free agent in 2021 following five seasons as a Charger. In addition to his steady production at the tight end position, Henry has grown into a team captain and key leader on offense in recent years.
Henry figures to be a key part of the offense once again, especially with not a ton of tight end depth behind him. Rookie third-round pick Eli Raridon slots in as the No. 2 tight end, while CJ Dippre, Mitch Van Vooren and undrafted rookie Tanner Arkin round out the group in training camp. Free-agent signing Julian Hill suffered a season-ending knee injury during OTAs earlier this offseason.
