Patriots reportedly trade quarterback Joe Milton III

The New England Patriots have traded quarterback Joe Milton III and a seventh-round pick to Dallas for a fifth-round pick, according to multiple reports.

Diana Russini of the Athletic reported the trade, and added, "Milton drew interest from multiple teams but ends up with the Cowboys."

ESPN's Adam Schefter also tweeted the trade, and categorized Milton as "a new backup for Dak Prescott."

The Patriots drafted Milton, 25, in the sixth round of the 2024 NFL Draft, the same class in which they selected Drake Maye with the No. 3 overall pick. The former Tennessee quarterback spent the majority of last season on the third-string, adding value on scout team in practice.

Milton first gained attention in the preseason last summer for his cannon of an arm and tenacious ability to evade defenders. But he was still a raw product in terms of accuracy.

He gifted fans a bittersweet win at the end of the regular season, playing the bulk of the 17th game against the Buffalo Bills and tallying 241 passing yards and one touchdown against the Bills' reserves. The win took the Patriots out of the No. 1 draft pick and knocked them down to the No. 4 slot.

New England signed free agent quarterback Josh Dobbs, 30, to their roster two weeks ago on a two-year, $8 million contract.
