The case for (and against) Yoshinobu Yamamoto

The pipe dream of Shohei Ohtani to the Red Sox was one thing. The Sox' very real pursuit of Yoshinobu Yamamoto is another.

As expected, the Sox are in line to be one of the teams vying for the services of the 25-year-old free agent pitcher.

It is currently believed that the price tag for Yamamoto's services might creep up over $300 million, with so many big-market teams prioritizing the perceived top-of-rotation talent.

Two other free agent starters the Red Sox are actively showing interest in include Jordan Montgomery and Seth Lugo, with the organization also keeping tabs on other potential high-end arms such as Blake Snell. Such moves, however, might be contingent on whatever resources are allocated to Yamamoto.
