(SportsRadio 610) -- Former Texans defensive end J.J. Watt is seriously considering the Cleveland Browns as an option in free agency, according to Mary Kay Cabot of cleveland.com.
Watt was released by the Texans last week after 10 seasons with the team and several teams are interested in the three-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year.
According to Cabot, Watt is interested in the Browns because they have cap space to sign him to what he believes is market value, and the potential to appear in the Super Bowl.
The Browns fell short of that goal, losing to the Chiefs 22-17 in the AFC Divisional Round. But they have a young quarterback in Baker Mayfield, a dynamic running game with Nick Chubb and Kareem Hunt.
Their team defense, however, ranked 21st in the league and the Browns were just average at rushing the passer.
While Watt's numbers were down in 2020 with only five sacks, he was double teamed more than any edge rusher in the league, according to ESPN Stats and Information.
Watt, whose battled a long list of injuries in his career, remained healthy enough to play all 16 games for the second time in the last three seasons.
Watt was due $17.5 million in non-guaranteed salary before the Texans agreed to release him.
