Steve Kerr reacts to Trump 2024 election before Celtics game

Golden State head coach Steve Kerr never passes up a chance to comment on the political climate and his press conference before Warriors vs. Celtics was no exception, less than 24 hours after Donald Trump was declared the President-elect.

“I believe in democracy and the American people have spoken and voted for Trump. I want him to do well for the next four years. I want our country to do well,” he said.

Kerr quickly and dryly pivoted to tongue-in-cheek comments about the election voter fraud conspiracy theories that swirled around the election cycle.

“I’m just thankful that there wasn’t any voting fraud this time. Last time, I mean, all those illegal immigrants who crashed the border and raped and murdered, and voted six times, that was unfortunate. But thankfully this time everything was clean. So it’s great, that every election has been really valid, except for that last one four years ago – twinkle in my eye as I say that, in case you couldn’t see it,” he said.

“But no, I believe in democracy. I believe in the people. I will do anything I can to support my country and our government, and I want nothing but the best for us. It’s a complex world,” he continued. “We’ve got a lot of interesting stuff, between wars abroad, the global economy that has shifted everything in terms of our what it means for our citizens and their day-to-day lives. I’m well aware I live in a bubble, and I’m one of the luckiest people on Earth. I want what’s best for us, and I hope Trump can deliver that.”

When asked whether he had any special words for the players after the election results came in, Kerr lobbed another joke.

“I just told them, in our meeting this morning, ‘let’s make America great again and beat the Celtics.’”

Kerr served as head coach of Team USA at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, where he coached three members of the Celtics. He made headlines for benching stars Jayson Tatum and Sixers center Joel Embiid during games.

Kerr previously endorsed President Joe Biden during his 2020 campaign and spoke at the 2024 Democratic National Convention.
