Today is "National Pumpkin Day" and I learned something new for Halloween! Have you seen a purple pumpkin around Central Florida lately? Did you know it actually has a meaning? Pumpkins with specific colors have a meaning behind them and I had no clue! For example, a purple pumpkin this year is an extension of the Epilepsy Foundation's ‘Purple Pumpkin Project’ to signify that a house is taking extra precautions to lower COVID-19 risks this Halloween. “Good Housekeeping” says "A purple pumpkin on a porch or in a window means families will be wearing masks while handing out trick-or-treating candy and will pass out wrapped grab-and-go bags."
Officials say they’re using purple pumpkins to bring more awareness to safety guidance, including tips issued by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
But wait, there’s more! Have you ever seen a teal pumpkin? I have, but just thought it was a cool-looking pumpkin, again not realizing it had a meaning behind it. A teal pumpkin means families can find an allergy-friendly treat, or a non-food item altogether, at your home for those who may need it.
