"Rolling Stone" published a list of the top 500 albums of all-time back in 2003 and then in 2012, they tweaked it. Well, back to the drawing board because they've re-created it from scratch, with 154 new additions that weren't on the previous lists.
Here's the new Top 10:
1. "What's Going On", Marvin Gaye, 1971 (It was #6 before.)
2. "Pet Sounds", The Beach Boys, 1966 . . . It was also #2 in 2003.
3. "Blue", Joni Mitchell, 1971 . . . It was #30 before and moved way up!
4. "Songs in the Key of Life", Stevie Wonder, 1976 . . . It was #56.
5. "Abbey Road", The Beatles, 1969 . . . It was #14.
6. "Nevermind", Nirvana, 1991 . . . It was #17. (Good pick!)
7. "Rumours", Fleetwood Mac, 1977 . . . It was #25.
8. "Purple Rain", Prince and the Revolution, 1984 . . . It was #72.
9. "Blood on the Tracks", Bob Dylan, 1975 . . . It was #16.
10. "The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill", Lauryn Hill, 1998 . . . It was #312.
So what was #1 that Marvin Gaye knocked out? In 2003, they had "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" from The Beatles at #1 and now it's #24. The Beatles are still doing well though, they have nine albums in the new Top 500, which is more than any other artist. Back in 2003, Dylan had the most, with 11 albums in the Top 500.
On the new list, some albums that weren't out in 2003 cracked the Top 50:
17. "My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy", Kanye West, 2010
32. "Lemonade", Beyoncé, 2016
33. "Back to Black", Amy Winehouse, 2006
