Dr. Simon Bramhall, a British surgeon who was caught branding his initials onto his patients' livers, has been removed from the medical register as of Monday. This basically means he can no longer practice medicine.
The brandings had taken place on multiple occasions in 2013. It was discovered that he used an argon beam coagulator, a device commonly used in surgeries, to place his initials on the transplanted liver of a patient at the end of each surgery.
The branded initials were only discovered when an organ transplant failed and another doctor was performing a surgery on the patient, according to BBC News.
This isn't the first punishment Dr. Brahmall has received for his offense. In 2020, he had his license suspended for five months, with the medical board citing "professional arrogance of such magnitude that it strayed into criminal behaviour."
