If you thought it sounded boring to watch YouTube videos of other people playing video games, you might want to sit down for this one.
According to AsiaOne, one of the big new YouTube trends is watching random strangers study.
That's all it is! It's just a video of someone sitting there, for hours at a time, quietly studying, usually not even acknowledging the camera. The trend started in South Korea but has spread to other countries, including the U.S.
So, why are these videos so popular? Some people like to put them on when they're studying or working, so they feel like they're not doing it alone. You can even get motivation from someone else working hard.
Secondly, seeing someone else struggling to study can be a good reminder that you're not the only one having trouble with work, so the videos are motivational.
Lastly, some people just like them for the ambient noise. It makes it feel like being in a library, which can help get you in the right mindset to focus.
