After teasing us in early June that they had written a brand new album, Halsey has officially kicked off the Y2K-pop era with “Lucky” -- featuring samples of Britney Spears‘ hit of the same name, and Monica‘s “Angel of Mine.”

Over Monica’s “Angel of Mine” beat, Halsey sings openly and honestly about their experiences with motherhood, relationships, diagnosis with lupus, and more before seamlessly transitioning into Spears’ “Lucky” chorus, which by the way was given a personal blessing from Brit-Brit herself.

Building on “The End,” the first single released earlier this summer, the music video for “Lucky,” directed by Gia Coppola, shows Halsey as a turn of the millennium Pop artist being idolized by fans, and features a cameo from Simon Rex as Halsey’s love interest.

"It’s a lot of feelings happening over here. it was really challenging to incorporate so many conflicting emotions in just a few minutes. This campaign has been fun because I WANT to have fun, but I made a lot of this art when I was suffering," Halsey said on Instagram upon the release showing some behind-the-scenes images of the video shoot.

“Long story short, I’m Lucky to be alive. Short story long, I wrote an album,” Halsey shared with fans at the start of the summer. “It begins with ‘The End.'” See what Halsey has in store via a new website featuring stickers and other clickable items to keep fans guessing until more details about the follow-up to 2021’s Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross (Nine Inch Nails)-produced If I Can’t Have Love, I Want Power arrives.
