In case you missed the headline, I turned 32 years old this past weekend. It's definitely a "whatever" age to turn, but I guess they mostly are after the big 2-1. That doesn't mean I still don't love my birthday, because I do. It's just nice to hear from old friends and family wishing you a HB. Facebook posts are nice, texts are great, but nothing quite tops getting an actual phone call from someone you haven't talked to in forever.
My wife Lauryn and I spent the first part of the day driving around Central Florida doing some house-hunting. This was a very "adult" way to kick off my birthday. After a handful of showings, Lauryn dropped me off at Bay Hill Golf Course so I could get a round in with some friends. The always reliable Florida afternoon thunderstorm had different ideas, however. We got only three holes in before the torrential rain came. We decided we'd rather go watch college football than wait out the storm, so we did that.
Then came the evening, aka birthday beer time. Our friend George met up with us downtown and we headed out to sing karaoke. I did "I Miss You" by Blink-182, obviously. The crowd went wild. They kept screaming "do another! do another!" but I figured I'd let someone else sing. This of course is an absolute lie, I'm sure they couldn't wait for me to finish.
The next stop was our favorite bar in Orlando, Casey's on Central. It's a little dive bar downtown where we've gotten to know the bar tenders and a lot of the regulars. They also have live music every night, which we love. My friends Dan and Ian were on stage on this night, and even invited me up to play a couple of songs with them. Again, the crowd was begging for more. This time the screams were even louder, "Encore! Encore!" they yelled as they clapped their hands in unison. Unfortunately, this is another complete fabrication. There were no requests for an encore, although I'm sure I ended up on somebody's IG story with a couple crying laughing emojis.
All in all, it was a wonderful birthday. I'm looking forward to my 32nd year on this earth. Or is it my 33rd? I'm not 100% sure and don't feel like doing finger math right now. Whichever it is, I'm looking forward to it.
