
While many surveys indicate that employees prefer a remote or hybrid schedule, managers aren't necessarily on board with that. They're willing to take some rather extreme measures to get you back in the office, also.
About 77% of managers said they’d be willing to implement “severe consequences”—including firing workers or cutting pay and benefits—on those who refuse to return to the office, according to a recent survey by employment background check company GoodHire of 3,500 American managers.
Many managers believe it is critical that employees be in the office. Former Google C.O.O Eric Schmidt recently weighed in on the topic, saying "I don’t know how you build great management [with remote work]. I honestly don’t."
If you're being asked to end your remote work and return to the office, you may have some leverage. Many companies are facing worker shortages, and might have no choice but to accommodate your requests to stay working from home.
