Is it possible to eat *too* much seafood? I put this question to the test this weekend as my boys and I devoured plate of oysters after plate of oysters. The results: No, it is not.
I had a few friends from back in Fargo, ND fly down to visit me this weekend for some golf, seafood, and of course, beers. It's become a bit of an annual tradition (I can't tell if it's because they actually like me or just want to escape the frigid North Dakota winter). We spent a few days bouncing around between St. Augustine, Daytona Beach and Orlando. While the golf course records were plenty safe, I would hate to have been a shrimp at one of the places we ate. Here's my favorite seafood spots from the weekend, ranked:
5. Gator's Dockside (Orlando)
Gator's is a Central Florida staple. While it's maybe not known for its ocean fare (Their grilled wings are probably my favorite wings ever) it does lowkey have some delicious seafood.
4. The Oyster Pub (Daytona Beach)
We had 6 dozen oysters while here, because "When In Rome..." and what not. They didn't disappoint. The Rockefeller Oysters were so unbelievably good. The place has a little different vibe, but it's fun.
3. Crabby Bill's (St. Cloud)
I didn't realize it but this place wasn't too far my wife and I's new house. We plan to be regulars from now on because the food at Crabby Bill's absolutely slapped. The vibes checked out, as well. It's right on the water of East Lake Toho, so you get a great view. I had the shrimp and Mahi Mahi, both juicy beyond belief.
2. The Beachcomber (St. Augustine)
My wife and I have been here before for our Anniversary trips, and it keeps me coming back. I'd literally make the hour and a half drive just to eat their ruby red shrimp. It's also got the perfect divey beach bar vibe that my friends and I were looking for.
1. Ocean Deck Restaurant (Daytona Beach)
Between the Oysters and the red snapper, this place takes the cake. Plus it's directly on the Atlantic Ocean in Daytona Beach. They also made a delicious (and STRONG) Rum Runner which we all enjoyed.
After stuffing myself full of seafood for 4 days, I still am somehow craving oysters. I guess I'm a seafood guy. What's your favorite place in Florida to get it? Let me know!
