We don't get much for "Fall colors" here in Florida, which I'm fine with. I'll take the palm trees and beaches and not complain for a second. However, it's still a treat to head up north and soak in the scenery.
I did just that this weekend. (I mean, I had other reasons for the trip but the colorful trees were a nice bonus) The main reason was to host a fundraising event that my friend and I put on every year. The event is a bags tournament (see: Cornhole) in honor of our friend, Marc Anderson, who we unfortunately lost to suicide in 2013 when he was just 22 years old.
The event was a ton of fun and we raised a lot of money for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention and Awareness, as well as to fund a $1000 scholarship we give out every year in Marc's name. However, that's not our main motivation for the event. It's always been just a good reason to get together with our friends and families to remember Marc and to keep his name alive.
Before catching my flight back to Orlando, I thankfully got to spend some quality time with my family. It's crazy to see how fast our two nephews are growing up. Liam (4) and Theo (1) are the cutest, coolest little guys to hang out with. We played in the leaves for a good solid hour, they couldn't get enough but I think I might have enjoyed it even more. Here's Liam having the time of his life:
Nothing better than just rollin' around in a pile of leaves, am I right? The fall season is great, but it lasts all of 15 minutes in the Midwest. Then it's just straight Antarctica-conditions for 6 months. Again, I'll take the palm trees.
