Pool days are the best day and I often forget that! A few weekends ago, I was practicing my backstroke and floating freely in the pool. My body was weightless. I felt the flow of my hair following behind me just like the mermaid movies I idolized as a child. I started wondering, “why is it that I don’t swim more?!”
SWIMMING IS A BENEFICIAL BECAUSE IT:
1. Provides a peaceful form of exercise
2. Alleviates stress
3. Improves flexibility
4. Provides a nice way to cool down on a hot day ( we have a lot of those in central florida)
5. Improves coordination, balance, and posture
6. Provides low impact
7. Burns more calories than jogging
8. Slows down aging… (I’m sorry… who failed to tell me this earlier in life?!)
Being outside, absorbing vitamin D, breathing fresh air, and the silence!! Oh- the -silence! Swimming certainly took me back to my childhood and made me question why I don’t engage more.
Here is what I know for certain, I will be swimming more now!
