Steve Harvey has responded after it was announced he would not be hosting the 69th Miss Universe pageant after years of working in the role.
This year's ceremony will instead be co-hosted by "Saved By the Bell" star Mario Lopez and Miss Universe 2012 Olivia Culpo.
While it is unclear why the 64-year-old "Family Feud" star won't be back as master of ceremonies, he has since released a statement on social media.
“I’ll miss you guys — but I’ll see you for the 70th,” Harvey wrote in response to a tweet that revealed Lopez and Culpo would be taking the reigns this time around.
Despite Harvey's comment, there has been no official word if he will host the pageant in 2022, which would be the 70th.
The tweet from the official Miss Universe account read, “Mark your calendars – Access Hollywood’s @mariolopezviva and actress and model @oliviaculpo will host this year’s Miss Universe competition, LIVE on @FYI and streaming next day free on The #Roku Channel. @Roku 👑.”
Harvey has had a rocky past while working for the Miss Universe competition.
In 2015, he mistakenly declared Miss Colombia Ariadna Gutierrez as the winner, only to realize he had misread the card. Miss Philippines Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach was supposed to win the crown, and Harvey immediately returned to the stage once he had discovered his mistake.
The current reigning Miss Universe, who was crowned in December 2019, is Zozibini Tunzi of South Africa.
This year’s Miss Universe competition will take place at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood, Florida, on May 16.
The competition will air in more than 160 territories and countries across the globe, according to USA Today. In the U.S. it will air on the FYI network and in Spanish on Telemundo.
