Taking to X to confirm, Khalid started his series of posts with — “🏳️🌈!!! there yall go. next topic please lol.” With comments flooding in on that initial post, someone replied, “Wait hope Mr Khalid isn’t GEHHH!” to which Khalid clarified, “I am! And that’s okay.”
In a follow-up tweet, Khalid revealed his latest revelation, which was entirely his to share, was first revealed by someone else. “I got outted [sic] and the world still continues to turn,” he said of the personal news. “Let’s get this straight (lmao) I am not ashamed of my sexuality! In reality it ain’t nobodies business! But I am okay with me 🖤 love yall.”
Khalid’s posts came after Hugo D Almonte, also a singer, whose music has less than 750 monthly listeners, took to X for a posting rampage about an ex that he did not initially identify by name. In the since-deleted tweet, Almonte said he dated and broke up with a “dumb a** singer” who allegedly then falsely accused him of breaking into their home.
Almonte then seemingly confirmed who he was talking about by posting a since-deleted selfie with Khalid alongside the caption, “Bitch a** 🥷🏾 lied and said that I broke into his house cause I didn’t want him.” And also went on to claim that the “gay artists that are out right now” are “s***ty as f***.”
While Khalid did not specify who outed him, the internet did its thing and deduced the culprit to be Almonte. Khalid, who has yet to respond to Almonte outright, and its doubtful he ever will, has replied to a few commenters on X. Gracefully responding to someone who wrote, that the “closet was glass,” Khalid said, “I wasn’t hiding anything! It’s just not any of your business.”
In a statement he made to Rolling Stone, Almonte noted that his intention was to “share how he tried to use his power to silence me because I simply ended our relationship.” Saying that “it’s crazy that these people said I was chasing clout, when I was holding onto this for five years, and I finally had enough.” Also claiming that he has received death threats, in the wake of his now-deleted posts.
Khalid on the other hand, has had his many fans and fellow gay artists come to his defense, including producers MNEK and Amorphous, who both condemned Almonte.
“Your music can barely allow you to afford a small fry at jack in the box and you’re pressed about outing someone who has three diamond records. y’all are not the same, babes,” Amorphous wrote on X.
While MNEK, opted to tweet directly at Almonte, saying, “If you’re intentionally going out of your way to be shady or cause mess, do not be shocked if your failing music career is brought up,” in the first post. Followed by another that rather straight to the point said, “loser Loser LOSER LOSER behaviour.”
