MEDFORD, N.J. (1010 WINS) -- A baby shower will be held at a New Jersey wildlife refuge this weekend in preparation for the upcoming arrival of thousands of wild animals.

The Woodford Cedar Run Wildlife Refuge is holding its third annual Wildlife Baby Shower on Sunday, Feb. 27, as it prepares for the upcoming arrival of thousands of injured and orphaned wild animals at its Wildlife Rehabilitation Hospital.

“We take in everything from baby field mice all the way up to whitetail deer, fawns, coyotes and foxes,” assistant director of wildlife rehabilitation Heather Evans said. “You name it, we pretty much take it — if you can find it in New Jersey.”

The baby shower will take place from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the Medford United Methodist Church at 2 Hartford Rd and will include games, crafts, as well as light refreshments. Admission is a $5 donation, per person or an item from the refuge's wishlist.

“Over the next six months, we’re going to take in about 4,000 animals,” she said. “The bulk of those are going to be squirrels, rabbits, opossums and songbirds, and 90 to 95% of the numbers are going to be babies. So that’s why we’re going to have this baby shower, to kind of gather all of those needed supplies.”
