There is an excess of Girl Scout Cookies still to be sold this year

By , NewsRadio 1080 KRLD

The Girl Scouts are dealing with a glut - a sweet one.

Because of the on going pandemic, the Girl Scouts didn't sell many cookies this year. For safety reasons, they weren't able to sell door-to-door or set up booths in their communities.

The result? 15 million boxes of unsold cookies. The Girl Scouts usually sell 200-million boxes of cookies each year - that's about $800 million dollars worth.

The money is used to fund various programs for the girls...including camps.

The Girl Scouts won't say how much of a financial hit they are taking because of the lower sales. However, you can still help and find some girl scout cookies for sale online...and you can donate a box or two to a food bank or to first responders.

The cookies have a shelf life of 12 months. So stock up - there's more than plenty!
