Celebrating the decade and a half anniversary of her breakout debut single, Kesha took to social to reflect on the track.
“TiK ToK was the first single that I put into this world that had my voice AND my name credited!!!! I remember making it fun and happy because that’s how I felt and wanted others to feel,” she wrote alongside glitter-filled cover art shots for the 2009 track. “What I’m so proud of is that’s how this song STILL makes me feel, through it all, and those are emotions I want all of us to connect to. 15 (!!!!!!) years later, I see this song as a snapshot into the way I saw the world at the time. That girl was naive and wild and playful. This song eternalizes a side of myself that I love very much, and now see I have to protect fiercely. The world has changed so much and so have I.”
Kesha went on to add that she “loves” the recent lyric change that she hopes to make “permanent” on the re-recording one day. Of course she’s referring to the alternative song intro she’s been going with since introducing it during Reneé Rapp’s Coachella set in April, on account of all the recent allegations and revelations about Diddy that have come to light.
Kesha’s OG lyrics obviously haven’t aged well, so now she opts for singing, “Wake up in the morning like f*** P. Diddy,” The original lyrics being, “Wake up in the morning feeling like P. Diddy,”
“I will re-record it when I have legal rights to! Now, my first baby stands for so much,” Kesha continued. “It stands for fiercely protecting my fun and unadulterated joy, in myself and in others. The whole ride has been absolute insanity, but the JOY is still riding.” Concluding her message, Kesha wrote, “I hope you all can find 3 1/2 minutes of play in this song and connect with your wild child-like joy. Thank you for making my life so magical animals, it’s one for the books!”
Adding to her iconic behavior, Kesha took to TikTok to continue to celebrate “TiK ToK,” to brush her teeth with a bottle of Jack.
In the short video, Kesha enters a bathroom with with her Spotify one billion streams plaque for her Pitbull collab “Timber," in hand. "S***, wrong one," she says before the Diddy has a chance arrive. Returning with the correct plaque, Kesha proceeds to fill the platinum bowl with Jack Daniels and brush her teeth with it. Like we said, iconic.
