Megan Thee Stallion stole the show for the women of Hip Hop at the 2021 GRAMMYs. She snagged her first win for Best Rap Performance for the widely-popular “Savage (Remix)” featuring Beyoncé. The hit charted on Billboard’s Hot 100 for 33 weeks, peaking at no. 1. The OG Hot Girl was speechless and in complete shock during the acceptance speech and honestly, we felt that.

Megan thanked her late mother, Holly, and grandmother for pushing her “not making [her] stop music while [she] finished school.” She also thanked her diehard fanbase, The Hotties and of course, the city of Houston before bursting into tears. All the feels!

It was then that Megan won the award for Best New Artist award, the first time a female rapper has held the title since Lauryn Hill in 1999. Despite it being a “hell of a year,” the Good News thanked her team and her mom who “is here in spirit” for always believing in her. Her mother, who was also her manager, tragically passed away in 2019 after battling cancer.

Music journalist Sid Madden perfectly encapsulated the beauty of Megan in one masterful tweet: “When you’ve dropped [fire] freestyles since 2016, bodied every cypher, tore up Tiny Desk, subverted all misogynistic tropes thrown at you, coined ur own season, kept on your college grind, stood up for Black women every step the way & are actually recognized for it in a timely manner.”

Megan took the stage to perform a medley of her hits, “Body,” the award-winning hit, “Savage (Remix),” and the highly-anticipated TV debut of “WAP,” which had our jaws on the floor and the CBS censoring team on standby.

When Thee Hot Girl went to claim her award for Best Rap Song, Bey joined her onstage. Megan reflected on her childhood dreams when she declared that “one day Imma grow up and be the rap Beyoncé. That was definitely my goal.” Even Megan’s late mom, Holly, would often ask her “what would Beyoncé do, but let me make it a little ratchet.” Bey expressed how much respect she has for the rapper, and they truly did it for Houston.
