Since the incident occurred, and throughout the ongoing court case, neither Megan or Tory have revealed the July 2020 events in full. That said, Megan has shared sporadic details on social media and interviews, while Lanez in various statements and in several songs from his most recent album, has taken the approach of denial.
Now, tearfully detailing her version of events, that she says left her needing physical therapy after Lanez shot at her left foot twice, Megan shared with Gayle that the altercation began as a normal argument between friends.
“I was ready to go, and everybody else wasn’t ready to go. But that’s, like, normal friend stuff,” she told King of her feeling at that time. “So I get out of the car and it’s like everything happens so fast. And all I hear is this man screaming. And he said, ‘Dance, b****.’ And he started shooting. And I’m just like, ‘Oh, my God.’”
After which she was scared to move, as she told Gayle, "I didn't even want to move too quick, because I'm like 'oh my God,' if I take the wrong step I don't know if he going to shoot something that's super important. I don’t know if he could shoot me and kill me,” she continued. “I was really scared because I had never been shot at before.”
Traumatized by the incident Megan went on to note, “I never put my hands on anybody. I never raised my voice too loud.” And pointed out that “this was one of those times where it shouldn’t have gotten this crazy.” Megan shared that after the incident, Lanez quickly began apologizing, offering her no help, but instead a million dollars not to speak up to the press.
At another point in the interview Megan detailed her experience at Cedars Sinai Hospital after the shooting, sharing part of her official medical report stating that she small bullet fragments still remain in one of her feet. The report also revealed details about an alleged text message that was sent to Lanez’s security guard from another passenger in the car that read, “Help, Tory shot Meg.”
Lanez was arrested on July 12, 2020 in connection to the incident, and later arrested once again for violating court orders stating that he cannot contact or come within 100 yards of the Houston rapper, when he made an unannounced appearance during DaBaby’s Rolling Loud Miami set moments after Megan left the stage.
As a result of the violation Lanez’ bail was increased, and then earlier this month increased once more, for another violation which this time took place on social media. Tory apparently tweeted “clear messages” to Megan, despite presiding Judge David V. Herriford definitively ruling that Lanez is “not to mention the complaining witness in this case in any social media.” The next court hearing is scheduled for September.
