Baton Rouge’s WBRZ reports that the 21-year-old artist was taken into custody after LAPD attempted to pull his car over due to an outstanding federal warrant.
YoungBoy, born Kentrell DeSean Gaulden stopped his car and began fleeing by foot. LAPD officers reported finding a firearm in his car, however, WBRZ reports that it was unclear whether the firearm belonged to Gaulden.
A spokesperson for NBA YoungBoy and the rapper’s attorney have not yet responded to requests for comments on the arrest. Additionally, a spokesperson for the FBI told Billboard that they cannot make comments on the open investigation at this time and have declined to confirm if the rapper was in their custody.
In September the Baton Rouge native was arrested in Louisiana on set during a video shoot, alongside 16 other people for weapons and drug charges.
After the September arrest, YoungBoy’s lawyer, James Manasseh, told Billboard, “Kentrell Gaulden is innocent of the crimes he was arrested for yesterday evening. He did not possess any firearms nor did he possess any controlled dangerous substances. No firearms or controlled dangerous substances were found on Mr. Gaulden’s person or in his immediate control."
Last year in Atlanta the rapper was arrested on a disorderly conduct charge and his associate, Trulondrick Norman was arrested in June on a second-degree murder charge from a non-fatal drive-by shooting incident in Louisiana in 2016.
