Aside from “Dance The Night,” her contribution to the Barbie movie soundtrack, “Houdini” marks Lipa’s first musical offering since the release of her highly successful sophomore album, Future Nostalgia and its Deluxe edition.
For her next trick, Dua delivered a high octane Pop track that walks a tight rope of remaining in her Future Nostalgia, disco vibes era. That being said, what’s that saying? If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.
“I come and I go / Tell me all the ways you need me,” Lipa sweetly sings, offering up an ultimatum, “Catch me or I go / Houdini.”
“This track represents the most light and freeing parts of my singledom,” Dua said, calling her new song “very tongue in cheek, exploring the idea of whether someone is really worth my while or if I’ll ghost them in the end.” Adding, “You never know where something may take you, that’s the beauty of being open to whatever life throws your way.”
The Danny L. Harle and Tame Impala mastermind Kevin Parker produced track comes with an accompanying music video directed by Manu Cossu with cinematographer André Chemetoff.
A relatively simple visual, full of artistic lighting, mirror tricks and Flashdance choreography, that btw Lipa performs with blissful wild abandon, further proves that Lipa is a Pop powerhouse, even without all the bells and whistles, outfit changes, or big-budget music video.
