·The Vegas Golden Knights opened the Stanley Cup Final with a wild 5-4 win over the Carolina Hurricanes in Raleigh.

·Carolina looked like it was about to run away with Game 1 early.


·Nikolaj Ehlers scored 25 seconds into the game, then scored again later in the first period to give the Hurricanes a 2-0 lead.

·Vegas answered fast. Shea Theodore got the Knights on the board, then Ivan Barbashev and William Karlsson helped Vegas climb back and take a 3-2 lead in the second period.

·Carolina tied it 3-3, Brett Howden put Vegas back in front early in the third, and then the Hurricanes tied it again.

·Tomas Hertl delivered the game winner with 3:24 left, finishing off a backhand feed from Colton Sissons to give Vegas the 5-4 win.

·Theodore finished with a goal and two assists. Brayden McNabb had the first three-assist game of his NHL career.

·Carter Hart made 23 saves for the Golden Knights.

·Vegas is now 3-0 all-time in Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Final.

·The win gives the Golden Knights a 1-0 series lead and steals home-ice advantage from Carolina.

·Game 2 is Thursday night in Raleigh.
