Calling all Kings & Queens, tis' the season to slay.
Ava Max is set to be a part of our RADIO.COM LIVE Holiday Music Festival on Monday, December 21 at 6PM ET / 3PM PT.
However, ahead of Ava’s performance here on RADIO.COM, Max caught up with RADIO.COM’s Julia to give us the inside details about her new holiday bop “Christmas Without You,” how she’ll be spending the holidays this year and she's highlighting her most important moments of 2020.
This roller coaster of a year has been chock-full of achievements for Max. The “Kings and Queens” singer dropped her sophomore album Heaven & Hell, was named on Forbes’ “30 under 30” list, and snagged a nomination at the 2020 MTV VMAs. Ava tells us that one of her most exciting moments this year was when her promotional single “Kings and Queens” went up to the number two spot on the radio this year. She says, “It is insane, I mean it’s going higher than ‘Sweet But Pyscho,’ and it’s just so exciting to know that in my home country it's doing so well as well because you know, I got so much love around the world, that I get so excited when it’s now in my home country.”
The singer who is proud of her Albanian roots tells us that her goals for 2021 are “to just keep making anthemic music, keep making dance music, keep you know, working and writing. I think it’s all about the inspirations and what I can stem from that can really relate to people.”
Going into this new year, dance music will certainly continue to be at the top of Ava’s “list,” in terms of priorities for new projects. After releasing Heaven & Hell the singer explains that she wants to stay on a path that leads to even more dance tracks.
“I like to dance, I know people love to dance, especially in this kind of world we’re living in right now of uncertainty, I think the one thing we can all relate to is having a good time as much as we can,” Max elaborates. When it comes to her music, Ava’s lyrics and subject matters may not always be “happy” but, “it’s all about the energy” behind the song. If there is a dance-heavy energy behind the lyrics we can dance the pain away.
This holiday season Ava is of course looking forward to all the desserts and her mom’s festive cooking, however, the singer says, “I think it’s a bigger picture this year. It’s about being grateful… every year it’s about our health, but this year in particular a lot of things have come to light.” She continues, “we’ve sat back and maybe realized things that we don’t like about ourselves. Maybe better ourselves, you know because we’ve had more time. I think it’s about sitting back and looking back on the year knowing that we made it through one of the hardest years.”
Ava’s Christmas will be different this year, spending it with her immediate family and focusing on reflection, but this year her holidays will also be accompanied by her very own Christmas single “Christmas Without You.” The festive, candy cane-infused, track “is all about the feeling,” shares Ava. “I think it’s like… all about when I get it to the place where I really feel it’s right. This song didn’t take too long actually… and I think it’s because Christmas, is you know, so emotional in it of itself, and warm that it wasn’t that hard…. everyone wants to be with their loved ones for Christmas so that’s really what we wanted to write about,” the asymmetrical-haired pop star tells us.
Ava jokes about the new track, “why does it sound like a classic already!?” She adds, “Christmas itself is already classic and timeless that whatever new Christmas song comes out it just so warm and fuzzy.”
For all the warm, fuzzy, and merry moments watch Ava Max’s full interview above and don’t miss her performance on the RADIO.COM LIVE Holiday Music Festival on Monday, December 21 at 6 PM ET / 3 PM PT.
