Dominic Monaghan isn’t mincing words.

In a recent chat with Anna Faris for her podcast “Unqualified” the “Lord of the Rings” star discussed how hard the dissolution of his relationship with actress Evangeline Lilly hit him. The two dated while both starring on hit TV show “Lost,” which was filmed in Hawaii from 2004 through 2010.

Monaghan said he found out then she cheated on him while they were making the show.
“I’ve only really got my heart broken once in my life,” he said. “You know, I don’t really know how she would explain the narrative, but from my point of view, it was probably the first time in my life that I was just kind of all in.”
Monaghan and Lilly dated from 2004 to 2007.
He told Faris him and Lilly were discussing kids and marriage, but at the same time he was struggling with addiction to drugs and alcohol. Lilly had reservations about those demons he was battling at the time.
“I was always the guy that wanted more. I wanted to drink more, take more, stay up the latest, go on benders. I just though that she was OK with that.” He explained. “I think probably she was consistently exploring the idea of like, ‘Well, this is OK for a time, but, you know, he’s not gonna be a great dad or a great husband because he’s got all this work to do,’ which I certainly did.”

Monaghan went on saying it was very difficult to go through a public breakup while “Lost” was such a massive show. “It was known we were together and then known that we were not together,” he said.
He first addressed Lilly’s infidelity in a 2013 tweet, replying to a message about Evangeline in “The Hobbit,” writing, “Nah. I don’t date cheaters.”
He told Faris someone relayed the information to him while they were still filming “Lost.”

“To say I was devastated is an understatement,” he said.
These days, Monaghan is still looking for love. “I want it to [sweep] me off my feet, and overwhelm me, and be a beautiful thing,” he said.
The actor most recently appeared in a starring role in the AMC+ series “Moonhaven.”
