George Stephanopoulos is sharing details about the lead-up to his guest-hosting stint on “Jeopardy!”
“Good Morning America” anchor George Stephanopoulos will begin his role as guest host starting July 12. The journalist will guest host for one week, according to ABC.
“This is really such an honor to have the chance to come and guest host,” Stephanopoulos said. “Like everyone else, I grew up with ‘Jeopardy!’”
While Stephanopoulos is used to the camera and lights, he shared that he was nervous to host the famous quiz show. However, he shared advice that the late host Alex Trebek gave him several years ago.
“It was the advice that Alex Trebek gave everyone every day when he talked about ‘Jeopardy!,’” Stephanopoulos said. “‘This is about the game, remember that first and foremost,’ and I think that really does get to the heart of the job.”
Stephanopoulos shared that one of his ABC colleagues, Terry Moran, would make a great contestant.
“[He’s] unbelievably well-read. Whenever he puts out posts on our emails, he impresses everyone with his erudition,” Stephanopoulos said.
Stephanopoulos isn’t the first journalist to guest host the game show. Last month, Savannah Guthrie took the podium.
In June, she shared that she spent several hours watching “Jeopardy!” before making her debut as guest host. Guthrie said preparing for the show was the most challenging thing she had to do.
“I watched a lot of ‘Jeopardy!’ to prepare,” Guthrie said. “I watched a lot of Alex’s episodes. If you want to learn how to be good at something, you watch a person who is the absolute best.”
Guthrie shared a sneak peek from behind the scenes with her fans of the taping of her ten episodes on her official Instagram page.
