After acknowledging his awareness that the first letter of the last six months of the year spell out his name, thanks to that viral video clip that, “pops up every year,” Jason went on to share when he got the first call that someone was interested in his music.
“The first call I got was from Tommy Rotem, who is the brother of producer J.R. Rotem, and they called me after hearing my song was on MySpace… He started to send me beats from J.R. Rotem and I’d write to those beats and send them back. And that’s when they wanted to sign me as a songwriter, flew me out to Los Angeles to sign as a songwriter, and then shortly after that they ended up signing me as an artist as well,” Jason explained.
Next question Jason answered was, when does he know it’s time to release new music? What triggers in his mind that it’s the right time?
“Now, what triggers in my my mind is, when I make a song… that I feel like is extraordinary,” Jason expressed. Noting, “there used to be a time that you really just waited, you’d make a full length album and waited to release new music. But I feel like times have changed and people just want a lot of content, they want a lot of new music. People that are able to continue to churn out new music and new content, those are the people that win the biggest.”
“Thankfully I write songs every day of my life, so you’ll be getting a lot of new music from me.”
Speaking of, as per Jason his latest single, “From the Islands (kompa pasión)” with Tomo and frozy, “is taking over social media.”
Jason went on to talk about his Vegas residency, share his favorite places to visit when in Dubai, share who his mentors and influences are in the music industry, plus a whole lot more. To catch it all, press play on the latest interview from Most Requested Live above.
