For the past several months, John Travolta has been grieving after his wife, actor Kelly Preston, died from a tragic battle from breast cancer last summer.
The “Grease” actor opened up about the process to Esquire Spain, an interview originally written in Spanish, according to Today.
Travolta shared that “living in mourning is something personal.”
“Mourning is individual and experiencing your own journey is what can lead to healing,” he told the outlet. “The most important thing you can do to help another when they are in mourning is to allow them to live it and not complicate it with yours.”

The 67-year-old actor said that he struggled to understand other people’s grief after losing his wife.
“Even though it’s great to have company, sometimes it becomes like you’re helping them rather than putting yourself to work overcoming feelings of loss and grief,” he said.

“The first thing you should do when you experience grief is to go to a place where you can mourn, without any interference,” Travolta said. “If I die tomorrow, the last thing I want to see is that everyone around is sunk.”
In July, Travolta confirmed that his wife of 28 years died after a two-year battle with breast cancer.
Travolta confirmed the sad news in an Instagram post.
“It is with a very heavy heart that I inform you that my beautiful wife Kelly has lost her two-year battle with breast cancer,” Travolta said. “She fought a courageous fight with the love and support of so many.”
The couple had three children together — Ella Bleu, Benjamin, and Jett Travolta.

They famously went through the death of their son Jeff, who died after a seizure on a family vacation when he was 16. The death launched a court case, forcing the couple to testify after the ambulance driver and his lawyer attempted to extort $25 million from the grieving parents in exchange for not exposing personal information about their son’s death.
