The Philadelphia Flyers are putting non-sustainable energy on ice.

In 2021, the Flyers’ practice location will be 100% powered by a renewable electricity supply, Environment + Energy Leader reported in January.

The switch to green energy is the result of a newly installed 1.06 megawatt onsite solar system at the Flyers Skate Zone in New Jersey, where the NHL team trains.

The installation was overseen by parent company Comcast Spectator, who started the installation of the new system in March 2020.

The recent addition of a wind energy system at the Wells Fargo Center means Philly’s national hockey team will both practice and compete against other teams in buildings fully powered by renewable energy.
