The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has officially unveiled the shortlists for several categories for the upcoming 2024 Academy Awards, otherwise known as The Oscars. And while we’d love to sit and discuss them all, given our usual topic matter, we’ll settle to simply talk about the Music categories.

So… who’s on this years list of contenders vying for Best Original Song and Best Original Score nominations? Let’s see…
Starting with Song — to absolute no surprise to literally anyone — both Dua Lipa and Billie Eilish made the list for their Barbie movie songs “Dance The Night” and “What Was I Made For?” respectively (even Ryan Gosling made the list). As well as Olivia Rodrigo for her contribution to the Hunger Games prequel soundtrack with, “Can’t Catch Me Now.” Also on the list — Jon Batiste for “It Never Went Away” from his documentary American Symphony, as well as Metro Boomin, A$AP Rocky & Roisee for “Am I Dreaming” from Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, Fantasia for “Superpower (I)” from the The Color Purple, and more.
As for the composers on the Best Original Score shortlist — Barbie masterminds Mark Ronson and Andrew Wyatt made the list, as well as Mica Levi (The Zone of Interest), Anthony Willis (Saltburn), Daniel Pemberton (Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse), Ludwig Göransson (Oppenheimer), and more.
Check out the full shortlists for both Best Original Song and Best Original Score below.
P.S. — The official list of nominees will be revealed on January 23, and the 96th Academy Awards will take place on March 10, during which, as always, all Best Song nominees will perform during the ceremony.
