The Salvation Army is the largest non-profit provider of emergency shelter in Central Texas. In 1987 The Salvation Army Social Services Center (SSC)opened. As the need for more help in the community grew, this led to the opening of two more shelters. The first is the Austin Shelter for Women and Children that's been running since the early 2000s. The second, thanks to Sara and Dick Rathgeber, opened on February 26, 2020. The Rathgeber Center is the largest of its' kind in Central Texas allowing dads, moms and guardians to stay with their children.
The Rathgeber Center provides services to help families move from homelessness to stable housing with confidence and self-sufficiency. Your gifts for the Salvation Army Austin Day of Giving goes towards the goal of reaching $1 Million to help so many in the Austin area! Give today!
