It's totally normal for people to wait for hours in line during SXSW to get the first pick of seats at film premieres at SXSW. I didn't really want to do that the entire week, but for "They Will Kill You" I was not messing around. Yup, that's right, I sat on the sidewalk in front of our very own Paramount Theatre to be in the front row at the world premiere. Director Kirill Sokolov told us to be ready for a party, and a party it was.
The movie follows Zazie Beetz's character Asia Reaves on the hunt to find her estranged sister Maria played by Myha'la. Taking a job as a maid at luxurious NYC building where she thinks her sister is a horror show awaiting her. She's got nothing to be afraid of, because she is a freaking bada** who trained in a real world horror show, prison. It doesn't take long to find out the residents are all a part of a satanic cult lead by Lilith Woodhouse, played by the iconic Patricia Arquette.
I had the best time. Was it the high of being in the same room as my cat Draco's namesake, Tom Felton who played Kevin, a member of the main cult family? Maybe. Probably. Or was it the continued gore aright in my face from being in the front row at the premiere? That too. The amount of times I shielded my eyes was over 6. The director, producers and cast spoke on the movie afterwards and it was so fun to see them in glitz and glam after watching them covered in blood for the past hour.
If you're looking for something fun, slightly unhinged with a fantastic cast, check out "They Will Kill You" in theaters tomorrow, March 27th!
Rated R for strong bloody violence, gore, language and brief sexual content/nudity.
