Monday 11/ 15 is Amercia Recycles Day! Doing 1Thing each day takes our journey in ATX closer to the Zero Waste Goal. Today start being part of the journey. The City of Austin is bringing attention to harmful plastic film that is filling up our landfills.
Plastic film is the stretchy variety of plastics such as single-use bags, plastic wrap and shrink wrap. These tanglers get wrapped up in the gears of the machinery at the city's recycling facility and causes the system to shut down. It's important to recycle them properly.
On America Recycles Day several waster blockers will be holding events showing how to recycle plastic films, and giving access for recycling. You can also drop it of at the Recycle & Reuse Drop-Off Center by appointment.
Use eco-friendly replacements for plastic film items:
Beeswax wrap for Cling warp
Fabric shopping totes for Single- use shopping bags
Silicone food storage bags for Zip-top plastic bags
Balled up newspaper for Bubble wrap
Not sure how to recycle items you have. What Do I Do With is a guide that will help with recycling, reusing, composting and more!
The City of Austin is part of the U.S. Plastics Pact committed to educating the Austin community about plastic film. Find out more about recycling plastic in Austin. It's 1Thing you can do for Austin's Zero Waste Goal for Mama Earth!
