Looking for inspiration? It can be found on Lady Bird Lake with Paddles with a Purpose. Austin's first and only Dragon Boat team made up of breast cancer survivors. They embrace the sisterhood that dragon boating has given, while creating life long friendships.
When it comes to 'dragon boating' and 'rowing' in the water sport world, they have many differences. Rowing has a history coming from the West. Rowers sit in a single file with their backs to the direction they are rowing with two oars.
Dragon boating has a history based on Eastern traditions. Dragon boaters sit in two rows of 10 and face forward using their paddles to one side of the boat to propel it forward. There are 20 paddlers, 1 drummer and 1 steersperson creating a team with a common goal to reach the finish line in the fastest time. Like SURVIVORSHIP, always looking forward and not backwards.
Congrats to Paddles with a Purpose! The team kicked off Breast Cancer Awareness month as champions for the second year in a row in the women’s division at the 14th Annual DFW Dragon Boat, Kite, & Lantern Festival! You Rock!
