June is Pride Month. It is true that having Pride in being yourself, and showing your true colors is every month. Although knowing and understanding the history that created Pride Month makes it clear why June is Pride month!
The nationwide revolution and activism for the LGBTQ+ people got it's start from The 1969 Stonewall Riots on June 28th. Knowing the Pride history helps with a better understanding and support for today. Educating, learning and staying informed on gender and sexual expression is paramount. Continue to work towards the common goal in the United States and across the world . Equal protection from discrimination for all.
Austin Pride formed in 2010. The AGLPF - Austin Gay and Lesbian Pride Foundation is volunteer run to manage and organize Austin's annual PRIDE celebration and Stonewall Rally. In Austin the Pride Parade celebration is not in June, but in August. There's no official reason, but the idea is that Austin doesn't have to compete with other cities for festival-goers and volunteers. Last year, Austin Pride's 30th year was postponed due to COVID-19. This year mark your calendar AUSTIN'S PRIDE PARADE IS SATURDAY, AUGUST 14th!
After the Pride Parade 4th street will be shut down for a block party! Free! Open to the public. Love Wins!
